Le Sous Soul, c’est fini! il avait été le rendez-vous légendaire du milieu homosexuel bernois dans les débuts du 20e siècle, un lieu libre et non conformiste. Il était devenu cette petite scène incroyable pour des concerts intimistes – sous la voûte d’une ancienne cave à charbon, une petite scène avec un public merveilleux. Descendre dans la dite cave c’était comme tomber dans un trou spatio-temporel, et se retrouver dans cette ambiance de début de siècle, avec toute la classe des « affranchis » et artistes qui en ont fait leur QG, leur boîte à rêve. L’association Sous-Soul avait fait un boulot énorme pour préserver le lieu – l’énorme vieux bar, les recoins peints avec amour, meublés de vieilleries magnifiques, et surtout son âme, l’esprit avant-gardiste et épicurien, une ligne de programmation personnelle et défendue comme telle.

Pour avoir travaillé avec le Sous-Soul, on en gardera aussi le souvenir d’une équipe dévouée, qui accueillait les artistes comme à la maison, avec beaucoup de coeur.

Quand on sait que le Sous-Soul a fermé suite à des problèmes de voisinage et des tracasseries administratives sans fin, le sentiment de gâchis est énorme… RIP Sous-Soul, et nos pensées à tous les passionnés qui gravitaient autour.

No more  Sous Soul! 

The club had been a legendary gay meeting point in Bern, at the beginnig of the 20th century, an open minded and anti conformist place. It had become this incredible little venue programming intimist gigs – in a vaulted coal basement, with a little stage and a great audience. Going down to that basement was like falling in a space-time hole, and landing in that beginning of the century atmosphere, steeped with the class of the free minds and artists who made it their headquarters, their dreamt place. 

The Sous Soul association had made a huge job preserving the place – its big old wooden bar, the lovingly painted corners and old furniture, and especially its soul, that avant-garde and epicurious spirit. The concert programming was carefully thaught, and defended special, authentic acts.

As we have worked with the Sous-Soul, we will keep the memory of a comitted team, welcomig the artists warmly and making them feel at home.

Knowing that the Sous-Soul closes because of administrative bothering gives us a bitter feeling of waste.

RIP Sous-Soul. Our thaughts go to all the passionated people who were contributing to the place and enjoying it.
